Shapes

“Shapes” is an abstract series of wall mounted plywood sculptures, inspired by my fascination for squares and the art movement known as Cubism.

This series was an exploration into applying the concept of Cubism to my plywood sculptures, as I wasn’t sure of the possibilities I couldn't visualize what I wanted each pieces to look like. As such I decided to go wild and let the wood guide me.

Out of all the plywood series I worked on this one was the most labour intensive and time consuming, as it took me quite some time to visualize what I wanted each piece to look like. Letting the wood guide me meant that I would often have to re-evaluate my vision because of how the wood would break whilst carving and the effects it would create.

Even though it was quite a hard process it yielded uniquely beautifull pieces, I am very pleased with the end result.
